Javad Mirjavadov (1923-1992), an exceptional artist and founder of the Azerbaijani avant-garde, is known for his works that draw inspiration from folklore and convey deep philosophical themes. His paintings are marked by originality and uniqueness, with images that often feature divs, djinns, and other eerie creatures as central characters. One notable example of his artistry is the painting ‘The Scream of the Planet,’ which addresses global issues, including the harsh realities of war and the resulting human tragedies, as well as the ongoing struggle between good and evil. In this work, Mirjavadov expresses his views on the world through grotesque images and fantastical beings with metamorphosed body parts. The composition, presented in a somewhat superficial and schematic style, showcases a unique harmony of bright, decorative colors that are characteristic of the artist's palette.
