On May 21, the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art hosted a lecture entitled “Modernity Born at the Intersection of Classicism” as part of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum.

The lecture was delivered by architect Abdul Huseynov, the author of the design project for the museum’s contemporary connecting wing.

Opening the event, Aytan Ahmadova, Deputy Director for Research at the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art, welcomed the guests and emphasized the significance of the lecture in the context of architecture and cultural heritage. Distinguished cultural scholar, professor, and President of the Simurgh Azerbaijan Cultural Association, Fuad Mammadov, as well as Honored Cultural Worker Naila Rahimova, addressed the audience and shared their positive reflections on both the lecture and the speaker.

During the meeting, participants were presented with insights into the integration of classical and contemporary styles in museum architecture, the preservation of historical architectural heritage through innovative design solutions, and the architectural transformation of the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art. The process of creating the museum’s glass extension was discussed in detail, from the initial concept to the final version of the project. Architectural proposals, drawings, and scale models were also showcased to provide a visual understanding of the project.

At the end of the event, guests visited the museum’s newly opened exhibition, “Chronicle of the City of Winds: Baku in the Works of Artists of the 19th–21st Centuries.”
