On February 25, a lecture titled “The Khojaly Genocide in Fine Arts” was held at the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art, dedicated to the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy.
The event was officially opened with the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the independence and territorial integrity of the country was honored with a minute of silence.
In the lecture presented by Asad Guliyev, Head of the Exhibition and Design Department of the museum and an art historian, extensive information was given about the reflection of the Khojaly genocide in Azerbaijani fine arts, as well as various artistic approaches to the subject. It was noted that numerous examples of painting and graphic art preserved in the museum’s collection hold special significance as an artistic chronicle of the historical tragedy.
At the event, Bahram Sheydayev, Chairman of the Yasamal district organization of the Public Union of Disabled Veterans of the Karabakh War, Veterans, and Families of Martyrs, retired colonel, delivered a speech emphasizing the importance of promoting the truth about Khojaly and stated that preserving the memory of the victims of the tragedy is a moral duty of every citizen.
The lecture was met with great interest by the participants, and it was especially highlighted that the depiction of the Khojaly genocide in fine arts plays an important role in shaping historical memory.
