On June 12, a lecture titled “The Hessen-Darmstadt Princesses Among the Gems of the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art” was held at the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art.

The lecture, delivered by Aysel Salamova, senior research fellow of the museum’s Graphics Department, offered fascinating insights into the lives of the Hessen princesses. It touched upon the work of German painter Friedrich August von Kaulbach and French artist Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant. The lecture explored the history behind the portraits of the Hessen princesses “Empress Alexandra Fyodorovna” and “Grand Duchess Elizabeth Fyodorovna” created by these artists, providing an artistic analysis and emphasizing the special value of these works within the museum’s collection.
