Expert Commission of the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art
The Expert Commission under the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art was established by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Its primary function is to provide expertise in determining the historical and artistic value of cultural assets and issuing certificates for their removal from the Republic. The Commission conducts thorough work on subjects submitted by citizens. Comprised of professional specialists, its members focus on the technical evaluation of cultural resources and offer art analysis in addition to their expertise.
The technical assessment involves examining the object using ultraviolet rays (which can confirm the author's signature, among other things), X-ray analysis, evaluation of the soil and colour layers, canvas, and other relevant chemical analyses, as well as conducting spectral analysis.
In terms of art analysis, experienced art critics with advanced degrees determine the period of the work, the art style, the artistic and technical features of the author's creation, and other significant aspects. This information is compiled into a written expert opinion. The certificate of conformity includes key catalogue information regarding the material sample, such as the author, title of the work, technical specifications, and more.
