The collection of the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art features the world-renowned painting “For You, Mankind!” by National artist Tahir Salahov (1928-2021), which holds a unique significance. This monumental piece showcases Salahov's extraordinary talent in capturing not just the essence of his era but also his ability to anticipate future events. A prominent figure of the “Severe Style,” Tahir Salahov first exhibited this artwork on April 12, 1961, during the Republican Art Exhibition held in Baku. The two human figures soaring in the blue sky were interpreted as a romantic tribute to the bravery of Yuri Gagarin, resonating widely with society. This painting symbolizes a remarkable triumph of human intellect, representing milestones like the first flight into space and the exploration of the universe. Reflecting on his work, Salahov stated, “In 1959, two years before the human space flight, I suddenly woke up at night and sketched a man and a woman with ancient features flying among burning stars in the cosmic sky. Soon after, I transferred this sketch to canvas and showcased the piece at an exhibition on the day of Yuri Gagarin's flight into space.”
