On January 30, a lecture entitled “The Islamic Art Collection of the Georgian National Museum and Easel Paintings from the Irevan Sardar Palace” was held at the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art. The lecture was delivered by Professor Irina Koshorizde, Chief Curator of the Georgian National Museum and PhD in Art History.

Organized within the framework of the closing ceremony of the exhibition “Mirza Gadim Iravani: 200 Years of Artistic Legacy, the lecture provided detailed information about examples of Islamic art preserved in the collection of the Georgian National Museum. Particular attention was given to the technical and stylistic features of these works and their place within the historical and cultural context of the region.

At the same time, easel paintings that once existed in the Irevan Sardar Palace and reflected the palace culture of the period became a subject of discussion. The artistic and aesthetic characteristics, iconography, technical execution, and significance of the exhibited portraits in the art history of the Caucasus region were presented on the basis of museum materials.

During the lecture, discussions were also held around the book “Mirza Gadim Iravani: At the Crossroads of Times,” co-authored by Irina Koshorizde. The publication particularly emphasized new attributions of two portraits depicting literary heroes related to the Irevan Sardar Palace and preserved in the Georgian National Museum.

The lecture concluded with an extensive discussion and a Q&A session with the audience.

Within the framework of the event, the feature-documentary film “Dream of Paradise,” dedicated to the life and work of Mirza Gadim Iravani and directed by Honored Art Worker Elkhan Jafarov, was screened.

The lecture and film screening once again brought the artist’s legacy to the forefront within a cultural and historical context, completing the closing of the exhibition “Mirza Gadim Iravani: 200 Years of Artistic Legacy” as a meaningful and memorable scholarly and cultural event.
