A lecture entitled “Masterpieces of the Mythological Genre in the Collection of the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art” was held at the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art within the framework of the “Lectorium in the Museum” project.

The lecture, delivered by Mehbara Abbasova, Head of the Innovation Department of the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art, provided detailed information on the main categories of myths, their distinctive characteristics, and the stages of development of the mythological genre throughout different historical periods.

The lecture included an analysis of works in painting and sculpture by such artists as Balthazar Beschey, Brunetti, Alexandre Falguière, Francesco Solimena, Filippo Lauri, Sébastien Bourdon, Giovanni Francesco, as well as Claude Michel, Franz von Stuck, Antonio Canova, and François Raoul-Larche.

Mythological subjects depicted in the artworks—Venus and Adonis, Dionysus, Rinaldo and Armida, Neptune and Amphitrite, Endymion, the Faun, Oedipus and the Sphinx, and Bacchanalia—were met with great interest by the participants.

The lecture sparked strong interest among attendees in the representation of mythological themes in fine art.
