On November 25, the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art hosted an event entitled “Kelaghayi — Traditions, Symbols, and Secrets.”

The event opened with a performance by the “Zirva” dance ensemble of Children and Youth Development Center No. 5, under the artistic direction of People’s Artist Jamila Bayramova.

Professor, PhD in Philosophy Rena Ibragimbeyova delivered a lecture on kelaghayi as an ancient form of folk art, providing an in-depth overview of its historical development, symbolic meaning, and the semantics of traditional ornaments.

As part of the event, an exhibition featuring selected kelaghayi pieces from the museum’s collection was presented. Participants were able to closely observe the color harmony of the patterns created on delicate silk, as well as the intricacies of traditional craftsmanship.

Shirin Melikova, Director of the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art, addressed the audience and emphasized the high cultural value of the event. She highlighted the important role of kelaghayi in national art and noted that scholarly research and such presentations help introduce this unique form of folk art to a wider audience.

The event concluded with numerous questions from participants and engaging discussions on the topic.
