On November 20, a lecture entitled “Mexican Muralism: The Art of Diego Rivera” was held at the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art within the framework of the “Lectorium in the Museum” project.
The lecture took place as part of the ongoing exhibition “Diego Rivera: A Promise of the Better Future” from the Anahuacalli Museum and was delivered by Gulnaz Mustafayeva, Senior Researcher at the museum.
The speaker provided a comprehensive overview of the creative path of the world-renowned artist. The lecture offered an in-depth analysis of Rivera’s easel paintings created under the influence of European avant-garde movements, his monumental works decorating various buildings and reflecting the historical chronicle of the Mexican people, as well as the fresco “Man at the Crossroads”, created at the Rockefeller Center in the United States and which caused a major international resonance.
The lecture also addressed Diego Rivera’s vivid personality and distinctive character, the influence of his socio-political views on his artistic practice, and his famous love story with the renowned artist Frida Kahlo.
