On October 15, the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art hosted a lecture titled “Diego Rivera: The Promise of a Better Future.” The event was held as part of the recently opened exhibition of the same name.
The lecture was delivered by Teresa Moya, Director of the Diego Rivera Anahuacalli Museum. She provided the audience with fascinating insights into the rich life and creative legacy of Diego Rivera, one of the most prominent figures in 20th-century Mexican art, and spoke about his unique works. The speaker elaborated on the ideas of social justice, which played a central role in Rivera’s art, as well as on his monumental murals that reflect the spiritual strength of the people and serve as a chronicle of 20th-century Mexican history.
The audience learned many interesting facts about the artist’s famous murals created for various buildings in Mexico and the United States, including “The Creation,” “Man at the Crossroads,” and “Man, Controller of the Universe,” among others.
Teresa Moya also spoke about the history of the Anahuacalli Museum, founded on Rivera’s initiative, the museum’s rich collection of nearly 50,000 artifacts, and the ongoing efforts to preserve the legacy of the outstanding artist.
The lecture, which drew great interest from the audience, concluded with a lively discussion and numerous questions directed to the speaker.
