On June 12, 2026, at 5:00 PM, the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art will host a lecture entitled “Baku in the Works of Viggo Langer” within the framework of the exhibition “Chronicle of the City of Winds: Baku in the Works of Artists of the 19th–21st Centuries.”

The presentation will be delivered by PhD in Art History, Associate Professor Sevil Karimova. The lecture will offer the first comprehensive scholarly study of the Baku theme in the oeuvre of the Danish and German artist Viggo Langer.

Participants will learn about the influence of the artist’s 1911 visit to Baku on his work, the reflection of the city’s architectural and landscape features in his paintings, as well as the results of research conducted in this field.

Viggo Langer’s work “Palace of the Shirvanshahs. Minaret” (1911) was acquired in 2024 by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan from Denmark’s renowned Bruun Rasmussen auction house and is currently being presented to the public for the first time at the exhibition “Chronicle of the City of Winds: Baku in the Works of Artists of the 19th–21st Centuries.”

During the lecture, the issue of the work’s reattribution will also be clarified, and new scholarly findings related to this topic will be presented.
