At the exhibition “Antinomia”, presented on February 13, 15 works by visual arts theorist and artist Elchin Shamilli are on display, including photography, graphic compositions, and installations. The works featured in the exhibition express, through visual language, the changing nature of existence, transitional states between time and space, as well as the collision of logical and mystical layers.

In the presented works, the concept of antinomy unfolds through themes of memory, transformation, and transcendent reality, while symbols function as the main means of establishing connections between different layers of reality. The artworks invite the viewer to sense the contradictions of existence and to reflect on the boundaries between the visible and the invisible.

Doctor of Philosophy in Art Studies Elchin Shamilli is the author of more than 40 scholarly articles dedicated to design and art theory, as well as monographs such as Perception of Visual Form in Design and Art, The Paradigm of Design: The Substitute for Architecture, The Abstract Vector in Art, and others.

As an artist, sculptor, and graphic artist, he held solo exhibitions in 1994 at the Baku Art Center (“Yeni Gallery”), and in 2006 and 2008 at the exhibition hall of the Azerbaijan Artists’ Union. His works have also been presented in group exhibitions in Baku, Recklinghausen, Budapest, Avignon, London, Aberdeen, Moscow, and Saint Petersburg.

The visual structures are constructed through compositions reminiscent of temporary transitional spaces and the fractures of time. This approach suggests the simultaneous experience of both presence and absence. Overall, the exhibition foregrounds the limitations of cognition and the possibility of transcending them through aesthetic experience.

The exhibition will run until March 31, 2026.
