On November 4, the opening ceremony of the new permanent exhibition titled “Azerbaijani Art Trasure” was held at the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art. The new exhibition was presented on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the glorious Victory achieved in the 44-day Patriotic War.
At the opening ceremony, Director of the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art Shirin Malikova, Director of the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan, academician Naila Velikhanli, and People’s Artist Salhab Mammadov delivered speeches. They noted that this exhibition, opened on the eve of Victory Day and consisting of rare artistic masterpieces contributed by the Azerbaijani people to the treasury of world culture, is not only an artistic event but also an artistic embodiment of national pride and the spirit of triumph.
The exhibition presents the development path of Azerbaijani art from the Bronze Age to the early 20th century consistently and on scientific grounds. Ceramic and artistic metal artifacts from the Bronze and Antiquity periods demonstrate the high level of ancient craftsmanship. The female idol and balbal statue are among unique exhibits reflecting ancient beliefs and the ancestor cult. For the first time, the locations where archaeological materials were discovered are shown on a map, and the process of making black-polished ceramics is presented as an animated film. Samples of medieval woodcarving, copperwork, jewelry, embroidery, and carpet art reflect the richness and artistic taste of folk craftsmanship. Miniatures, ceramics, and tile art from the Safavid and Qajar eras, as well as the works of Mirza Gadim Iravani, Mir Mohsun Navvab, and Abbas Huseyni, are presented as masterpieces of Azerbaijani visual and decorative art.
