On October 14, the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art hosted the opening of the exhibition “Diego Rivera: The Promise of a Better Future”, organized by the Diego Rivera Anahuacalli Museum (Mexico).
At the opening ceremony, speeches were delivered by Şirin Malikova, Director of the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art; Victoria Romero, Ambassador of Mexico to Azerbaijan; Dr. Telman Ibrahimov, PhD in Art Studies; and Teresa Moya, Director of the Diego Rivera Anahuacalli Museum. The speakers emphasized the importance of the exhibition, noting that Diego Rivera’s art reflects universal human values and constitutes an integral part of Mexico’s cultural heritage. They also highlighted that the exhibition contributes to strengthening cultural ties between Azerbaijan and Mexico and expressed gratitude to the organizers.
The exhibition is jointly organized by the Embassy of Mexico in Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Anahuacalli Museum, and the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art. It presents around 100 photographic reproductions illustrating the work of the world-renowned artist Diego Rivera (1886–1957), including murals, sketches, and archival materials.
The exhibition features five main thematic sections. It explores the artist’s reflections on art, his role in the muralist movement, the synthesis of painting and architecture, and the social function of art in post-revolutionary Mexico. It also includes reproductions of monumental works such as “The Creation” (1922), “Man at the Crossroads” (1933–1934), and “Man, Controller of the Universe” (1934).
The central section of the exhibition is dedicated to the Anahuacalli Museum, founded on the artist’s initiative and home to his rich collection. Located in Mexico City, this museum serves as a symbolic space that unites ancient heritage with the vision of the future.
The exhibition “Diego Rivera: The Promise of a Better Future” will remain open to visitors until December 31, 2025
