As part of the Azerbaijan Culture Days held in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, on April 22 a lecture was presented at the National Museum of Fine Arts named after Gapar Aitiev by Shirin Malikova, Director of the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art, PhD in Art History and Associate Professor. The lecture, titled “Mirza Gadim Iravani: At the Crossroads of Eastern and Western Artistic Styles,” was dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the great artist. The lecture, which was received with great interest, provided the audience with extensive information about Mirza Gadim Iravani’s life and work, as well as his significant role in the development of Azerbaijani visual art. His portraits—combining the realistic tendencies of the Qajar style with Western European techniques within a traditional decorative-conventional approach—and his exquisitely beautiful ornamental compositions were thoroughly analyzed.
